My 3 favourite ways of using TOFU
Tofu is literally the holy grail of vegan food!!
And now you're gonna be like 'yea sure..', but trust me it is!
Firstly, if you're not sure about what tofu really is let me tell you. The reason for calling it tofu 'cheese' is not because it tastes like cheese, no, but because the process of making it is relatively similar to the way the cheese is made from milk.
So the whole procedure consists in curdling soy milk (from soybeans) and then pressing the resulting curds into soft, white blocks. 😋
There's actually a large variety of tofu types such as fresh tofu, soft or silken tofu, firm tofu, extra firm tofu, processed tofu, fermented tofu, dried tofu, fried tofu, and frozen tofu. (soo many right?) By now I have only tried the silken, firm and dried tofu and honestly all of them worked amazingly for me.
Why is tofu good for you?
To give you a brief nutritional highlight, tofu is a good source of protein and contains all eight essential amino acids. It is also an excellent source of iron, calcium, minerals, magnesium, zinc and vitamin B1. Also, tofu is an excellent food from a nutritional and health perspective because it is thought to provide the same sort of protection against cancer and heart disease as soya beans. 💚
And finally my 3 favourite ways of using tofu are:
1. for making NICE-CREAM (silken tofu)
2. did anyone say PIZZA? (firm tofu)
3. the oldie goldie SCRAMBLE (silken tofu)
Of course, beside these tofu can be used in many others (stews, ramen, grilled, baked, curry, everything really haha).
I promise to come back with some recipes for the above suggestions in my future posts *hehe*.
